At StrataPrime, migrations to Google Workspace – from Office 365, or another Google Workspace instance – is a relatively straightforward process. We have completed hundreds of these migrations involving tens of thousands of end users. However, we recently had a first with a migration from Box.com, specifically the Box Notes platform.
Typically, data migrations involve raw files being copied from one location to another. The original format is retained and the file is migrated as-is from the source, to the destination. Box Notes posed a challenge as the files are stored and shared in a proprietary format with a unique .boxnote file extension. Though the raw files could be migrated, they would be inaccessible outside of the Box platform, resulting in vendor lock-in.
To truly achieve cost and solutions consolidation, a full shift to Google Workspace was the objective for our customer. Losing access to thousands of Box Notes was not an option as they contained important documents and business critical information.
StrataPrime conducted our own R&D and designed a creative and secure solution that satisfied ours and the customer’s strict requirements. We were able to migrate and convert over 20,000 Box Notes to Google Docs in a matter of hours. These documents are fully accessible via Google Docs, maintaining 100% data fidelity. Our team worked with the customer to map, organize, share and secure these assets as appropriate across the organization. This maximized opportunities for accessibility and collaboration, while minimized efforts for future maintenance.
