A large Canadian bank (“the Bank”): a global financial institution with approximately 90,000 employees, looking to improve the ability of its 1,100 Digital Banking employees to collaborate securely across teams and across device platforms. Further, the Bank wanted to satisfy the requirements of the next generation of workers by offering a choice of productivity platform.
As demographics continue to shift, organizations like the Bank are competing for new talent. Many recent graduates have ‘grown up’ with Google and have limited experience with Microsoft. In order to compete for the next generation of resources, the Bank has decided to offer G Suite to its 1,100 Digital Banking employees. As part of this deployment, the Bank undertook to use G Suite on a multi-device and OS platform (Windows, Mac, Chrome, iOS, Android). Both corporate owned and BYOD devices were in scope of the deployment. Security, compliance, Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and preventing data exfiltration were paramount considerations, including endpoint data protection.
Many security and compliance organizations in large banks are working with outdated and often false information about G Suite’s security, DLP, privacy, and compliance capabilities. The Bank was no exception. The onus was on StrataPrime and the Bank’s project team to prove to the internal Information Security and Compliance group that G Suite would meet the same criteria as Microsoft for security, privacy, and compliance. This review also included the architecture for endpoint security. The other challenge was to prove to the Infrastructure team that G Suite can coexist and interoperate with Microsoft.
StrataPrime has been a Google partner since 2012 and we also have extensive expertise in coexistence deployments with Office365 and on-prem Exchange. We are experts at end user digital workplace technology and endpoint device management. We specialize in the Financial Services industry and we understand complex and highly regulated environments. We used our industry leading experience with Google to drive security and coexistence across platforms and devices. Using our unique expertise, we were able to satisfy all the requirements of the Bank’s G Suite deployment. StrataPrime managed all aspects of the G Suite deployment from Design, Architecture, Threat Risk Assessment (TRA), Implementation, and Operational Readiness (OR).
Through the work completed on the design, architecture, TRA and OR, StrataPrime was able to prove to the Information Security and Compliance group that G Suite fully meets the same security criteria as Microsoft, including all requirements for endpoint data protection. Formal approval of the TRA was achieved. The OR process validated that the G Suite privacy, DLP, data exfiltration, and compliance capability exceeds the capabilities of the Bank’s current state. The implementation was successful, and G Suite is currently deployed in production for the Bank’s Digital Banking team globally.
